Negative Space PCA314
PCA 314 - Negative Space
December 7 to 21, 2014
Negative space, by definition, is the empty space around the subject or focus of the photograph. If the edges of the photo frame the contents within, and the subject is the focal point, it's possible that just about every photo, even macro's and tight portrait shots can have negative space. To the extreme, this is called minimalism. Keep in mind negative space for this next assignment.
WIT
It is rare for me to shoot just for fun these days with my time constraints. But I was in Miami for business, had to stay for a Saturday Night event and fly back Sunday. So I talked one of my buddies into picking me up a the hotel before sunrise and going out to Jetty Park at South Beach before dawn. Interesting how many people were there, what they were doing (photo shoots, still out from a night at the clubs, in suit and tie, and more. I happened to see this lady setting alone on the jetty, looking North along the Atlantic Shoreline of South Beach. not watching the sunrise as most everyone else was doing.. so a bell rang in my head,, Minimalism and Negative Space... so I framed her to the lower right side using the vertical golden mean concept.
To me, the empty space of the water worked for me to give a bit a mystery to her view, what is she looking towards, her scarf is not a normal dress for this area,, so I brought the whites out a bit there by dodging with a 50% brush on the shadow layer
The top of the jetty right here is pretty basic, covered to allow people to walk over the rocks..
Thanks all for viewing and posting for the PCA
